Tottenham predicted team vs West Ham: Gareth Bale on bench with new signing as Bergwijn starts

There's only one question dominating Jose Mourinho's team selection as Tottenham Hotspur welcome West Ham United and it's whether Gareth Bale plays.

The Spurs boss has been asked the question a number of times over recent days and the most he gave was that the Welshman would "probably play" on Sunday but if not on Thursday in Tottenham's Europa League group stage game against LASK.

The next question would be whether Bale is deemed fit enough to start the derby against the Hammers or whether his second debut for Spurs comes from the bench.

Elsewhere on the pitch Mourinho is missing Giovani Lo Celso and Japhet Tanganga to injury and Eric Dier was deemed a major doubt after returning from England duty with a hamstring problem.

That leaves Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez as the likely starting centre-backs. New signing Joe Rodon arrived after the noon registration deadline on Friday so cannot be involved this weekend.

The Tottenham head coach must decide on his full-backs. On the left, Sergio Reguilon is likely to get the nod over Ben Davies, especially with a day extra to rest after international duty.

On the right, Serge Aurier, who played for the Ivory Coast against Japan in the Netherlands a day before Doherty turned out for Ireland, could also be the man with the spot.

Aurier was excellent at Old Trafford and pressed his claims to start against the Hammers while Doherty continues to adjust to being a right-back rather than a wing-back.

In the centre of the pitch, Mourinho will have to decide whether to go with a midfield three or a 4-2-3-1 formation and much might depend on whether Bale starts.

Tanguy Ndombele is likely to get the nod to continue his good form and also with no Lo Celso, Spurs need his creativity from the centre of the pitch.

Then it will be down to who joins Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the engine room, Moussa Sissoko or Harry Winks.

Mourinho also told football.london that Carlos Vinicius will make his first appearance on the bench on Sunday and that Harry Kane will start.

If Bale is on the bench then it's between Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura for that spot in the team.

Here is the team we reckon the Spurs boss will choose at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

(4-3-3) Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Reguilon; Sissoko, Hojbjerg, Ndombele; Bergwijn, Kane, Son.
