Tottenham players take Mauricio Pochettino for dinner in show of support for boss

Tottenham's players have shown their support for Mauricio Pochettino by taking their manager for dinner.

Speaking last week, Pochettino confirmed he had received a text from his players inviting him and his coaching staff for dinner.

Spurs bounced back to form with a crushing 5-0 success over Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night after winning just one of their seven matches before then.

They take on Liverpool on Sunday and ahead of the clash at Anfield, Pochettino and his players enjoyed a slap-up meal in Mayfair.

The likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli were all in attendance at posh restaurant Novikov on Thursday.

Speaking on the invite, Pochettino said: "When you receive a text from the players inviting you and the coaching staff for a dinner one of two things can happen.

“It is either because they want to say goodbye or because they feel that they love you and want to show that they are with you.

“And I think it's the second.

“If they were going to say goodbye to me, they would do it here - not at a dinner.”

Tottenham take on Liverpool after a slow start to the Premier League campaign, which has left them in seventh in the table.

Harry Kane, who has skippered the side in the absence of Hugo Lloris, has challenged his side to seize the momentum from their European success.

"It all depends on how we carry it on, it is one win, one result.

"Like I said, at home we were expected to win this game so we can't get too carried away with it. We have to stay focused and take the positives and take them into the Premier League.

"It is exactly what we needed, a great performance, a lot of energy, plenty of goals, a clean sheet - a perfect night.

"But it doesn't stop here, it was a game we were expected to win. We have got a very tough game on Sunday so I hope we can take momentum in to that."
