Tottenham player ratings vs Burnley: Giovani Lo Celso shows his class as Eric Dier impresses

Hugo Lloris

Couldn't keep hold of Jay Rodriguez's powerful effort and it gave Chris Wood a simple finish to open the scoring. However, atoned for his error with a brilliant save to deny Matej Vydra late on. 5

Japhet Tanganga

Started at right-back with Serge Aurier given a rest and was handed a huge test up against the impressive Dwight McNeil. Had a lot to deal with at times but improved after the break. 6

Davinson Sanchez

Lost out to McNeil down the right for the opener as the winger put a low cross into the area that eventually led to Wood's goal. Not his best performance as had to contend with Burnley's frontmen.

Eric Dier

Had a battle on his hands with both Chris Wood and Jay Rodriguez to deal with. However, moved into the midfield after the break as Jose Mourinho changed things about. Came to Spurs' rescue midway inside the second half with a brilliant block as Vydra cut inside ready to shoot. Very good performance from Dier in his third successive start. 8

Toby Alderweireld

Far from his best in the first half and couldn't react quick enough as Wood peeled off him to tap home after Lloris palmed the ball out. Not featured in recent games so no doubt a bit rusty against Burnley's powerful frontmen. 5

Jan Vertonghen

Utilised as a left wing-back again and tried to push on when he could. Decent shift from the Belgian again on the left with Ben Davies absent. 6

Oliver Skipp

Mourinho clearly saw enough in midweek to give him another start and he made a big contribution early on as he cleared the ball off the line. Also was on hand to nip in and get the ball just as Rodriguez was about to let fly. Overrun at times in midfield and was perhaps harshly subbed off at the break. 5

Tanguy Ndombele

The Frenchman was given a rare start but it was in a deeper role in midfield alongside Skipp. Just couldn't have an impact on proceedings going forward and was hooked at the break. 4

Erik Lamela

Starting his first game following his recent injury and almost had a sight on goal in the first few seconds as the ball just went through his legs. Won the penalty for Spurs just after the second half as he drew a foul from Ben Mee. Plenty of fight from the player and good to see him get minutes in the tank after his recent injury problems. 7

Steven Bergwijn

Quiet in the first half but involved a lot more after the break with some direct runs at the Burnley defence. 6

Dele Alli

A few neat flicks but they didn't always come off for the Spurs ace in the first half. Levelled things up shortly after the break with a confident penalty as he sent Nick Pope the wrong way from the spot. Caused Burnley a number of problems in the second half. 7

Substitutes

Giovani Lo Celso (Oliver Skipp, 46)

Had an immediate impact on proceedings as he played in Lamela with a brilliant through ball that saw Mee foul the Argentine. Pulled the strings in the middle of the park and was outstanding as he looked to guide Spurs to a winner. 8

Lucas Moura (Tanguy Ndombele, 46)

Introduced at the break and gave Spurs another option in attack. Some good runs from the player. 6

Serge Aurier (Erik Lamela, 78)

Came on in the closing stages as he replaced Lamela and didn't have enough time to make an impact. 5
