Tottenham player ratings: Gareth Bale wins it, Alderweireld excellent, Son struggles

Hugo Lloris

Beaten by Lamptey's low, clinical finish into the bottom left corner. Almost took a catch over his own goal line in the final five minutes but didn't have a save to make really. 6

Matt Doherty

Might feel slightly fortunate not to have given away his third penalty of his short Spurs career. Struggled to contribute much going forward but his defending late on was important for Spurs. 6

Toby Alderweireld

Played a lovely, trademark diagonal ball out to Reguilon to set up Bale's goal. Did everything asked of him defensively. 9

Eric Dier

Mopped up plenty at the back, particularly in the air. 8

Sergio Reguilon

Saw an early shot pushed over by the keeper but picked up a yellow card in the first half which kept him on edge. However, he kept his discipline and flighted in a perfect right-footed cross for Bale to head home. 7

Moussa Sissoko

Plenty of endeavour, albeit with some iffy passing when Spurs needed to build momentum. Made some important interceptions late on though. 7

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Showed great anticipation to cut out various Brighton passes. Looked to be fouled in the build-up to Brighton's leveller but the referee did not agree despite VAR recommending he looked at it. Another confident performance. 8

Tanguy Ndombele

Picked up an early yellow card within ten minutes which hampered his ability to make challenges. A couple of nice touches but he tired in the second half and could have done more in getting back for Brighton's goal. 6

Erik Lamela

Lovely flick which sent Spurs away in the build-up to the penalty incident and caused problems for Brighton in the first half. Hit the post with a low, skidding shot in the second half. Was perhaps unfortunate to come off before others with 20 minutes to go. 7

Harry Kane

Earned himself a penalty within 15 minutes, awarded by VAR, and he slotted it away. That put him into the top 10 highest Premier League goalscorers of all time with 149 goals, in joint tenth with Les Ferdinand, with 199 in total for Tottenham. Hit the post from a yard out from a tight angle from a corner. 7

Son Heung-min

Was involved in the build-up to Spurs' first goal but struggled to make an impact for much of the game. Replaced late on. 5

Subs

Giovani Lo Celso

Replaced Ndombele and curled a shot wide in the final minutes. 5

Gareth Bale

Netted his first goal since 2013 within three minutes of coming on, sending an unmarked header past Sanchez. 7

Ben Davies

Came on for Son late on to shore up the left side. N/A
