Tottenham player ratings: Dele Alli and Dane Scarlett struggle, Davinson Sanchez good vs Vitesse

Pierluigi Gollini

Forced into an early save to deny Nikolai Baden Frederiksen inside the area but had very little else to do in terms of saves after that. However, couldn't keep out Maximillian Wittek's effort in the closing stages as Vitesse scored. 5

Japhet Tanganga

Back in the team at right-back and performed well in his 90 minutes in Arnhem. Put off Lois Openda in the second half as he closed him down as he went through on goal. Also looked to attack on occasions and put in a good ball across goal early on that was cut out. 6

Joe Rodon

Given his chance in the team and produced a good block to deny Openda on the hour mark. Defended well at times but unfortunately on the losing side. 6

Davinson Sanchez

Couple of good tackles early on with Vitesse dominating and remained strong at the back with an assured performance. Definitely wanted to make a case to the head coach with Eric Dier now ahead of him in the pecking order. 7

Ben Davies

Captain on the evening and helped Spurs defend well at times as Vitesse put them under pressure as the game wore on. 6

Harry Winks

A rare start for the midfielder and kept the ball ticking over in the middle of the park. Nothing of note to trouble first-team regulars Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. 5

Giovani Lo Celso

Got on the ball and tried to make things happen from his central midfield role, including at the start of the second half as he played his part in Bryan Gil's chance that struck the crossbar. Some good bits of play at times but needs to produce more often. 6

Steven Bergwijn

Back in the team for the first time since his injury at Rennes in September and had little to do in the first half down the left flank. Looked a bit more lively after the break but wasted a quick break when in a favourable position. Will have done him the world of good to get some minutes in the tank. 4

Dele Alli

Struggled to have any impact on proceedings despite playing in his favoured No.10 role. Did very little when he was on the ball and just didn't look at the races. An opportunity wasted. 4

Bryan Gil

Looked to have made a rash challenge in his own area early on but replays showed he got a touch on the ball as Vitesse called for a penalty. Sliced a shot over the crossbar in the first half before going even closer minutes after the restart as his shot cannoned off the crossbar. Some good bits from the Spaniard. 6

Dane Scarlett

Got little joy out of the Vitesse backline on his third European start for Spurs and is clearly still trying to come to terms with the step up to senior football. Very little up top in terms of chances created for him but did his bit defensively with a couple of important blocks outside his own area. 4

Substitutes

Dilan Markanday (Dane Scarlett, 74)

Given the final 15 minutes but couldn't have an impact on the game. 4
