Tottenham player ratings vs Brighton: Eriksen saves the day as Lucas and Llorente struggle

Tottenham Hotspur left it late but they boosted their chances of a top three finish with a 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night.

With Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all failing to win across the bank holiday weekend, the Lilywhites knew that maximum points against a side with relegation fears on their plate was imperative.

It took a long time but they did break the deadlock in the 90th minute and Mauricio Pochettino's side are three points clear in third with a trio of Premier League games left to play.

Spurs fans will love what Eric Dier did when Vincent Janssen was sent on against Brighton

But how did we rate the players against the Seagulls?

Find out below...

Hugo Lloris

Didn't have too much to deal with at all other than one parry from a cross in the first half before catching Duffy's header early in the second half. Got the Spurs fans cheering late on after taking an age with his goal kicks following Eriksen's goal, mimicking what Mat Ryan had been doing in the Brighton box all game at the other end and the Spurs fans rose as one to applaud him and chant his name. 5

Kieran Trippier

Defended solidly on the whole but struggled to deliver decent crosses into the box to either Llorente or Janssen later on. His greatest strength seems to have deserted him for now. 5

Toby Alderweireld

Almost opened the scoring for Spurs as his second half turn and shot sent the ball against the right-hand post and spinning across the face of goal. He did little wrong at the back. 7

Jan Vertonghen

Sent a shot against the fallen Wanyama in front of the Brighton goal in the first half and on the whole dealt with the few threats Brighton posed. 7

Danny Rose

He made a superb sliding tackle on 37 minutes to stop Andone who was sprinting into the Spurs box past Vertonghen and another on the halfway line in the second half as Brighton threatened to run clear. His passing and crossing was woeful at times though. Powered a shot at goal which the keeper palmed up and gathered at the second attempt in the second half. 6

Victor Wanyama

He tried to move the ball quickly but his passing sometimes let him down. Did what else he was meant to but it was not his job to open the opposition up. 5

Christian Eriksen

Fired an early shot wide of goal and another over early in the second half. Had another low effort pushed out but in the end he managed to find the breakthrough with a low bouncing powerful effort which caught the unsighted keeper off guard and made the net bulge. 7

Dele Alli

Worked hard but struggled to make much happen. Had a late chance in the first half that just needed a decent connection to put it past the players on the line. 5

Son Heung-min

Huffed and puffed but struggled to make much happen on either flank against Brighton's rigid lines. 4

Brighton & Hove Albion post classy social media message about Tottenham's new stadium

Lucas Moura

Looked to be the one to open up Brighton's tight defensive lines early on with a couple of blocked shots and one that the keeper held well. In the end he just didn't use his pace and guile to get past anyone and was replaced by Janssen with ten minutes to go. 4

Fernando Llorente

Struggled to do much with the ball when he saw it, but the service into him was so poor he was anonymous for much of the game. 4

Subs

Vincent Janssen

Almost got on the end of a saved Eriksen shot soon after coming on and made a good defensive header from a Brighton set piece. He'll just have been delighted to play his first senior minutes of the season in those final 11 minutes. N/A

Ben Davies

Came on for Wanyama and added a bit of thrust down the left. N/A

Juan Foyth

Entered the fray in the final moments. N/A
