Tottenham plan talks over next manager as Glenn Hoddle suggests former Liverpool man for job

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Tuesday, May 11.

Spurs draw up shortlist for new boss

Tottenham have drawn up a shortlist for their new manager and are looking to push forward with talks, football.london has been told.

Spurs currently have Ryan Mason in temporary charge of the team after the club sacked Jose Mourinho last month.

football.london understands that the age of the new manager is not too important, but the brief is that they must be progressive, attack-minded, favouring possession-based football and most importantly, they must fit into the club's culture.

The north London club have drawn up an initial shortlist of managers they are considering for the role and will push forward to hold talks with the top candidates.

Dier's verdict on Leeds highlights Spurs' failures

Eric Dier thinks Leeds United caused "controlled chaos" in Tottenham's 3-1 defeat at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

“I thought Leeds were the better side first half, they make things very difficult,” Dier told Spurs TV when reflecting on the defeat.

“They are very aggressive, they create controlled chaos from their point of view and we didn’t control that so well ourselves in the first half."

It was never going to be an easy game for Spurs, especially when considering Leeds' ability to compete with the top sides in the Premier League this season - especially at their home ground in Yorkshire.

Hoddle suggests Gerrard could be a possible candidate for Spurs job

Glenn Hoddle thinks Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard could be a possible option for Daniel Levy to appoint as Tottenham's new manager.

The Rangers boss has brought the Scottish Premiership title back to Ibrox this season after ending Celtic's dominant spell.

Gerrard's growing CV as a manager could attract Spurs to the former England midfielder, something that Hoddle said on BT Sport.

“Steven Gerrard, I will put his name," the ex-Spurs man said.

"I don’t know if Steven can wait for [Jurgen] Klopp to start hitting the ropes in a few years’ time to go to Liverpool, it doesn’t work like that sometimes.”

As Hoddle mentioned above, Gerrard has been widely tipped to one day replace Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, but could seek some Premier League experience of some sort beforehand.

The former Reds captain is a legend for some on Merseyside and his impressive tenure at Rangers so far will be something that has caught the eye of Liverpool chiefs.
