Tottenham news: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg says ‘instability’ at the club has created a ‘lack of energy’

Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg admits instability has not helped the club this season.

Supporters have protested against chairman Daniel Levy after a difficult campaign on the pitch.

Spurs have had three managers this season and are now under the interim stewardship of Ryan Mason following the departures of Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini.

The club are now ready to conduct interviews with full-time managerial candidates after completing the due diligence process of their search, with Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim of Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon respectively under consideration.

They have already made contact with the out-of-work Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, while Feyenoord’s Arne Slot and Burnley’s Vincent Kompany are also of interest.

Tottenham are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League and are also looking for a new sporting director following the resignation of Fabio Paratici.

Levy’s next appointment is crucial, particularly with talisman Harry Kane set for fresh contract talks. The England captain will have only a year to go on his current deal this summer and continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United.

Hojbjerg, who has played a key role all season, admits uncertainty off the field has not helped the team on it.

“When you have three coaches in a very short time, there is some instability,” the Dane told Sky Sports.

“We know that this is a part of this world that in a game, in a season, there will be some instability. There will be insecurity, there will be a lack of energy when you are changing coaches.

“You kind of lose your way a bit, your values.

“You see the teams that are dominating the football in Europe, they are teams that over a long time are doing the right stuff with the right values.”
