Tottenham news: Mourinho on £30m Piatek deal, Fernandes transfer hint, worrying Kane verdict

It is a big day for Jose Mourinho and Tottenham.

Can they, despite their bad form and injury crisis, become the first team to beat Liverpool this season?

Spurs fans will be hoping to pick up three points as they travel to their home ground in N17 for the Saturday evening kick-off against the runaway league leaders.

They will also be thinking about transfers, with the January window open and the side in need of reinforcements, not least to cover the injury to Harry Kane.

All that and more is below in our round-up of all the biggest news stories from around Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the past 24 hours.

Mourinho on Piatek

With Harry Kane out until April there are going to be persistent questions on Tottenham's lack of alternative options up front.

Kane is the only recognised first team striker on the books in N17 and will need replacing one way or another in the next three months.

Spurs have been linked with a move for a number of strikers in Europe.

One of those is Krzysztof Piatek from AC Milan.

And Mourinho was asked about the Polish frontman during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool game.

Here's what he said.

Worrying Kane verdict

England striker Kane has spent time on the sidelines in each of the last three seasons now.

Previously it has been ankle trouble, but on this occasion it is a hamstring tear.

But while it is not a similar injury to the ones that have beset him previously, it is a cause for concern.

We spoke to a medical expert to get his view on the striker's injury.

Moussa Dembele move

If Tottenham are in the market for a striker Moussa Dembele could be a decent signing.

The Lyon star has been linked with a move to Chelsea for much of the January transfer window so far, but that interest has cooled amid comments from Frank Lampard that he is not one the Blues are discussing.

Reports have suggested that Spurs could make a move, however, and offer a player as part of a swap deal.

Fernandes hint

Bruno Fernandes was linked with a move to Tottenham last summer.

And Spurs even agreed a deal with the Portuguese man but could not get a deal over the line.

There were hopes that Spurs would rekindle their interest in January, especially with Jose Mourinho in charge.

And a big transfer hint was dropped on social media on Friday night.

Read all about that here.

Beating Liverpool

Can Tottenham do the seemingly impossible and beat Liverpool on Saturday?

Liverpool are unbeaten and Spurs have an injury crisis.

But wouldn't it just be like Jose Mourinho to mastermind a victory in a situation like this?

Spurs fans will certainly be hoping so.

Here's what Mourinho has had to say about ending Liverpool's Invincibles run.
