Tottenham news: Lucas Moura transfer latest as Daniel Levy reminded about £20m mistake

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Tuesday, September 13.

'Possibility' Spurs star leaves in January

According to Pete O'Rourke, Brazil international Lucas Moura could be sold in the January transfer window.

“Yes, there’s a real chance that he could possibly leave. Lucas Moura has been a good player for Tottenham in fits and bursts, but he has maybe not been as consistent as he possibly could be for some Tottenham fans,” he said, speaking to GiveMeSport, as cited by Caughtoffside.

With the arrival of both Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison in the last 12 months, Moura has been pushed down the pecking order under Antonio Conte and a move away from the club would be understandable.

Levy reminded of £20m mistake

If there's one area in the Spurs squad that looks short, it's the massively important wing-backs, especially on the right. Djed Spence is still raw and has only been trusted with one minute of substitute action so far. The 22-year-old is one for the future but needs game time to improve under Conte, whereas the Italian will be prepared to wait for proof of having earned a spot in the side first.

Matt Doherty has struggled with injuries and hasn't been able to reignite any form in the few minutes he has received this season. Emerson Royal has so far been the preferred choice, but his attacking limitations make him expendable, with Lucas Moura providing makeshift competition.

It could have been very different for Tottenham, though. Playing in Newcastle is seemingly the perfect solution to this problem. At 31, Kieran Trippier is unlikely to have another big move in him, but the versatile England defender could slot in nicely into Conte's current system.

Although issues started to appear for Mauricio Pochettino after the final, Daniel Levy's openness to sell Trippier to Atletico Madrid for just £20m was a surprise, and now it looks like a mistake further down the line.
