Tottenham news: Late Timo Werner move, £27.3m transfer decision, Levy to save millions

The January transfer window is almost closed.

Tottenham have made one new signing, but Jose Mourinho and the supporters will be hoping to see more before the 11pm deadline next Friday.

Plenty of names have been linked, but will any of them sign on the dotted line come Friday?

There is lots of transfer talk in our round-up of the biggest and best Tottenham stories from the past 24 hours below, as well as plenty on the FA Cup fourth round draw with Southampton at St Mary's and what happens next.

Timo Werner move

Tottenham have been linked with a number of strikers during the January transfer window.

But as yet they have not signed one to come in and replace the injured Harry Kane.

Kane will be out of action until April with a hamstring injury and head coach Jose Mourinho would like to bring a frontman in.

Willian Jose has been linked, but according to reports, Spurs are putting in place a plan B and that B appears to stand for Bundesliga.

Saving Levy millions

Gedson Fernandes joined Spurs on loan with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.

He is the only January transfer window signing in N17 thus far.

And for Daniel Levy the form of one player in particular will make him smile, because it should save him millions in the transfer market, staving off Mourinho's attempts to sign more players.

£27.3m decision

On the subject of saving millions, Spurs will do just that with one transfer this winter.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Southampton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, but once again one player stood out above all others.

And it was a player whose future at the club will save Levy money in the long run.

Southampton verdict

The cup clash at St Mary's could have gone either way.

Tottenham had the clear cut chances to be out of sight before the Saints' late rally that could have seen them come from behind to win.

As it was, the two sides will have to settle for a replay at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in just over a week's time.

Here's our verdict on the match on the south coast.
