Tottenham news: Arnaut Danjuma delivers Spurs pledge as Mauricio Pochettino tipped for new role

Your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Tuesday, February 7.

Pochettino in running for Premier League return

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is, surprisingly, in the running to make a return to Premier League football with Leeds United.

The Whites sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday afternoon following Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, a result which leaves Leeds dangerously hovering above the drop zone in 17th.

According to SkyBet, West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan is the favourite at 6/4 with Pochettino at 6/1 alongside Marsch's predecessor Marcelo Bielsa. Ex-Southampton chief Ralph Hasenhuttl is 9/1 with Ange Postecoglou bringing up the rear of the top five at 10/1.

Pochettino has been linked with a sensational return to north London previously despite being sacked by the club in November 2019. The Argentine was most recently in charge at PSG, although he was dismissed from that role last summer.

Bale hails 'incredible' experience

Gareth Bale has spoken after competing in the Pebble Beach professional and amateur pairing golf tournament last weekend following his retirement from professional football.

Bale was paired with professional golfer Joseph Bramlett, finishing the tournament at 16 under par. They did, however, miss out on making the final round of the competition that resumes on Monday, finishing joint-16th overall

"I am a big golf fan and appreciate what these players do on the golf course. It is great to play with them, interact and watch what they do. Just watching him (Bramlett) strike a ball is something else.

"The power, the touch. He has been incredible and he is an even better guy, which is more important. I couldn't have asked for a better partner."

Antonio Conte makes surprise Harry Kane phone call

Having become Tottenham Hotspur's top goalscorer in Sunday's 1-0 win over Manchester City, Harry Kane was greeted by a surprise phone call from absent boss Antonio Conte, who was recovering from gallbladder surgery in Italy.

In a video captured from inside the Spurs dressing room, Kane was handed a phone by Son Heung-min with Conte on the other end.

Much of the audio is unclear but Conte can be heard saying to Kane, "you make me so proud". The conversation continues with Kane telling his manager, "we'll see you on Wednesday". That remark brought a lot of cheers from his teammates as it would mean they were given an extra day off following their superb victory.

Son then clearly begins chanting "two days off" in the hope Conte decides to reward the team for their tireless shift before they head back into Premier League action against Leicester next Saturday.

Danjuma makes Tottenham pledge

Arnaut Danjuma has pledged to become a "beacon of light for the fans" following his loan move to Tottenham from Villarreal.

Despite being destined to join Everton, Danjuma completed a last-ditch U-turn and moved to north London in January. Danjuma even scored on his Spurs debut in the 3-0 win over Preston North End in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Speaking to the club's official matchday programme, he joked: "See, it's the Dutchness. The Dutch always score on their debuts.

"Playing my first minutes for the club gave me a good feeling and then, to score on my debut, that is something that you obviously would always like to do.

"For me, I just really came here hoping to be a beacon of light for the fans and try to give them something new, get them enthusiastic, help the team perform better and try to prove myself to the club."
