Tottenham news: Antonio Conte sends Son Heung-min snub as free transfer race ignored

Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min has been sent a snub from his own manager as the forward aims to claim this season's Premier League Golden Boot.

The South Korea international heads into Spurs' final game of the season against Norwich just one goal behind Liverpool's Mohamed Salah having netted 21 times for his club in the league this season. But it appears Conte does not intend to alter his plans to help the striker win the prestigious award.

It comes as Spurs have dropped out of the race to sign Sam Johnstone when his contract at West Bromwich Albion expires at the end of the season. And Tottenham's food poisoning incident has been revisited following worrying reports about the Spurs' squad ahead of their crunch match on Sunday as they aim to wrap up Champions League qualification.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Tottenham Hotspur headlines.

Conte sends Son snub

Antonio Conte will not hand penalty-taking duties to Son Heung-min on the final day of the season despite the forward being in the hunt for the Premier League's Golden Boot award.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah currently leads the way with 22 goals this term, although Son has netted 21 goals for Spurs handing him a good chance of claiming the prestigious prize. But with Spurs also hoping to wrap up Champions League qualification and a top four finish, Antonio Conte insists the needs of the team must be put first.

And for that reason, the Italian has insisted that Harry Kane will remain as Spurs' man to step up to the spot should the opportunity arise against Norwich.

Spurs drop out of free transfer race

Spurs have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Sam Johnstone when his contract expires at West Brom this summer.

The goalkeeper had been an option for Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici as Spurs look to add competition for Hugo Lloris next season. Spurs are thought to want to bring in a homegrown keeper, but could instead turn their attentions to Southampton's Fraser Forster.

And that could give Erik ten Hag a free run to take Johnstone to Manchester United instead.

Inside food poisoning drama

Fears have been raised over the wellbeing of the Spurs squad ahead of their final game of the season – with the club facing a similar situation to the infamous 2005/06 season.

Tottenham headed into the final weekend of the season that year in almost the same situation they do now, sitting one place above Arsenal knowing if they could match their rivals' result, they would be in the Champions League. But an evening meal of lasagne the night before the game led to several of Martin Jol’s players suffering the effects of food poisoning.

It meant a weakened side had to take to the field against West Ham, setting in motion one of the worst weekends many Spurs fans could remember.
