Tottenham news: Antonio Conte impressed as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min light up Etihad

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Sunday, February 20.

Conte's verdict

Antonio Conte called Spurs' dramatic 3-2 victory over Manchester City 'a perfect performance' before hailing the club's defensive efforts.

"For sure was a great win for us against a fantastic team like Manchester City. Compliments to MC because also tonight they showed to be the best team, in my opinion, in the world for their organisation, for the players they have, for Pep," he said in his post-match press conference.

"To win a game like this means we had a perfect performance. We were very good defensively. Before the game, during the press conference, I said we prepared for the game very well, we had a plan. For sure, when you play against Manchester City, you know the ball possession will be 70 % for them."

He also praised the display of Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, and Son Heung-min saying: "For sure, Kulusevski played an amazing game. He’s only 21 years old, but despite this, he has good experience, because when you play with Juventus you have to manage a lot of pressure in Italy.

"He’s a good signing for us. He's strong physically, good technically.

"It’s very difficult to speak about only one player. Sonny was fantastic today. Harry… I think to speak about Harry’s performance, what can I tell you about him? (Laughs) He was fantastic."

Kane praise for teammates

Speaking after the game, Kane was keen to highlight the hard work of all the Tottenham players, crediting that as a key factor in the win.

He said: "Yeah crazy game, we worked so hard for so long and then being 2-1 up for a lot of the second half there it would have been so heartbreaking. But credit to the boys we got another chance at the end and I was able to put it away.

"It’s not a time to get too carried away. We go Burnley away midweek and we know that will be a tough one."

The English striker struck twice – including a last-gasp effort in the 95th-minute – to rescue all three points for his team when it looked as though City had done enough to claim a point.

Having lost their past two league games coming into this match, Kane and co may have felt their top-four aspirations slipping out of their fingers. The win, however, keeps them well and truly in the race.

Kane and Son back to their best

In the dramatic win over Manchester City, it's safe to say the two Tottenham stars were back to their electrifying best.

In the football.london player ratings, Alasdair Gold gave Kane a ten out of ten score, writing: "Fantastic first time ball into the path of Son in the build-up to the visitors' early goal. Got a few good balls away to his fellow attackers, including one to put Son away for an early second half chance.

"He then bust a gut to get into the box to volley home Son's cross superbly into the top right corner. Denied by Ederson with a big chance just moments later, then had a goal ruled out by VAR but his header late on was vintage Kane. What a performance."

Son was given a nine out of ten, but was still fantastic on the day. Gold wrote: "Manchester City must hate playing against him. He made a perfectly timed run to beat the offside trap four minutes in and unselfishly played the ball to Kulusevski for an early assist.

"Cut inside early in the second half after a run towards the City box but his low shot was held by Ederson. He then picked out a beautiful cross for Kane to volley home. He then set up the striker for another big chance moments later. Came off for Lucas having run his socks off."

It seems as though the Tottenham fans were in agreement with Gold's assessment of the Spurs duo. With fans comparing the pair to sporting double-act icons such as basketball and LA Lakers legends Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neill, and former Barcelona legends Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
