Tottenham news: Antonio Conte delivers Hugo Lloris update amid Harry Kane transfer verdict

Your morning Tottenham digest on Friday, March 17.

Antonio Conte confirms Hugo Lloris Tottenham plan as he hails 'fantastic signing' Fraser Forster

Antonio Conte has confirmed that Hugo Lloris will reclaim his spot in the Tottenham first team once he returns to fitness despite Fraser Forster's recent heroics. Out since the 1-0 win over Man City at the start of February with a knee injury, Forster has started the last eight games for the Lilywhites while the World Cup winner has been in the treatment room.

The summer signing from Southampton has impressed during that time, notably in last Saturday's 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest after making a fine save from Serge Aurier's header before denying Andre Ayew from the penalty spot. Expected to be on the sidelines for six to eight weeks in total, Lloris could return to fitness after the first international break of 2023 has drawn to a close.

Forster's form has certainly given Conte something to think about in the meantime, although he has admitted that Lloris will take his place in goal once again once he is back to full fitness.

Antonio Conte delivers Harry Kane future claim

Antonio Conte has discussed Harry Kane's future at Tottenham after the England star recorded yet another 20-goal season for the club. Speaking ahead of Spurs' clash against Southampton, Conte said: "I think that this is a question for the club.

"For sure, the club wants to involve Harry Kane for the rest of his career in my opinion. Because when you have this type of player, a world class striker like him, for sure you want him to stay here for the rest of his career.

"But then you know football, you know football. Sometimes it's unpredictable but I think it's not in my task to make a decision. This is a decision for the club and for Harry."

Louis Saha explains why Tottenham are struggling under Conte and the solution may be an unexpected one

Louis Saha has questioned whether the Tottenham players have been working on fixing their mistakes in training but has suggested that Antonio Conte leaving may not be the solution.

Spurs have had an inconsistent season, crashing out of the Champions League and FA Cup this month and the Carabao Cup at the first stage earlier in the season. Yet despite their struggles to impress this campaign, if they win at Southampton on Saturday then they will climb into third place in the Premier League table for the international break, with Manchester United having two games in hand and playing in the FA Cup this weekend.

Saha, who played for both Spurs and United, believes that the recent speculation over Conte being replaced has come at an awkward time.

"When a team has decided on a manager, they need to act on it straight away, but it’s a hard time with Antonio Conte as he’s been unwell recently," the ex-France international told Paddy Power.
