Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik will have to leave the Serie A club in January if he is to have any chance of lining up for Poland at the European Championships in 2021.
Milik has not played for Napoli this season after being left out of their league squad and is the final year of his contract at the Stadio San Paolo.
Tottenham were one of several clubs who considered a move for the 26-year-old in the summer window but instead opted to sign Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica, however Milik will likely be an option again in January.
Jose Mourinho is unlikely to push for a fourth striker to operate behind Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Vinicius but given the volume of injuries that have occurred this season, it's not beyond the realms of possibility, especially with Spurs competing for silverware.
But Tottenham are alone in monitoring Milik's situation with Premier League sides Newcastle and Everton, under Carlo Ancelotti also keen but it's Serie A side Roma who are reported front-runners.
Although Milik has previous indicated he's "relaxed" about his situation and may well see out his contract in Naples, the head of the Polish FA Zbigniew Boniek has declared he simply has to move or he won't feature for the national team next summer.
Boniek, who starred for Juventus and Roma in the 1980s, was asked if he could see Milik lining up for either of his former clubs.
“I don’t know, but I don’t think he’s going to Juventus. But I don’t know anything," he told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“I hope he will find an agreement with Napoli otherwise he risks not going to the European Championship.”
Boniek made similar comments in the week, albeit more blunt, when he said on the eve of Poland's Nations League match with Italy: "If he doesn’t play at club level, it’s practically impossible for him to be used at Euro 2020."
