Tottenham need huge fee to land ex-Chelsea star as Alessandro Bastoni alternative

Tottenham have reportedly been lining up other transfer targets at centre-back with Alessandro Bastoni set to stay at Inter Milan.

Reports suggest Crystal Palace's Chelsea centre-back Marc Guehi, who used to play for Chelsea, is high up on the club's wishlist. However, the potential fee involved may deter Spurs from moving for the 21-year-old, who spent 14 years at Stamford Bridge before moving to Palace last season.

According to The Athletic, Spurs will be faced with a 'huge fee' to get the transfer over the line. Patrick Vieira's Palace received plenty of praise for their performances last season with the Eagles sparking a new era by signing a number of young prospects.

These included Guehi and midfielder Conor Gallagher with the England international midfielder scoring eight goals under Vieira on loan from Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea side.

In his debut season in England's top flight, Guehi played in 36 of Palace's 38 Premier League matches, scoring twice in back-to-back games against Burnley and Aston Villa.

Prior to his move to Selhurst Park, Guehi spent a season and a half out on loan with Swansea City and helped them to reach the final of the Championship play-offs in the 2020/21 season, losing to Brentford in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

While Guehi was named in The Athletic's list of potential alternatives Spurs are considering if they miss out on Bastoni, three other players are also said to be on Conte's list of potential targets.

RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol, who has also been linked with Spurs' rivals Chelsea, is said to be being monitored, as is Lille's Sven Botman and Villarreal's Pau Torres. Reports also claim that if Inter can complete the signing of Gleison Bremer from domestic rivals Torino, it could lead to Inter cashing in on Bastoni for the right price.

Bastoni is currently on international duty with Italy and has started both of their games this month in their draw with Germany last Saturday and their win over Hungary on Tuesday.

English clubs and their supporters may be able to get a good look at Bastoni if he wins his 15th cap in Italy's Nations League meeting with England at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
