Tottenham morning headlines as Thomas Meunier talks held and Ivan Perisic linked with transfer

Good morning, Tottenham fans. Here are your Spurs morning headlines for Wednesday, June 17

Spurs hold talks with PSG star

Tottenham have reportedly held talks to sign Belgium international Thomas Meunier, who is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain this month.

The Daily Express report Spurs are working on a deal to provide competition for Serge Aurier, but the club are considering free transfers this summer due to the financial difficulties in football.

The Belgian defender has been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal, but now appears to be closer to joining Spurs.

Meunier - who has earned 40 caps for Belgium - is international teammates with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, although the latter is out of contract at Spurs after the 2019/20 season is concluded.

Perisic an option for Tottenham

Jose Mourinho has long been a fan of Ivan Perisic and reportedly tried to sign the Croatian when he was in charge of Manchester United three summers ago.

Now a report from fcinternews.it outlines how there is a possibility the two could be reunited this summer in north London.

Perisic is on a season-long loan at Bayern Munich from Inter and the two are in talks about extending the deal, but the Italian club want a permanent sale while the German champions prefer a loan extension.

The 31-year-old has made 29 appearances for Bayern this term but has started just 11 Bundesliga games and has often been an understudy to Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman in Bayern’s wide attacking roles.

Moss in the middle for United game

Jonathan Moss will referee Tottenham’s return to Premier League action on Friday against Manchester United.

As outlined by football.london, Moss has overseen two Spurs games already this season - a 1-1 draw with Burnley and the shock 3-0 loss at Brighton.

Eddie Smart and Neil Davies will be the two assistant referees while Andre Marriner will be the fourth official and Graham Scott will oversee VAR.

Moss has twice overseen United games against Tottenham and both resulted in 1-0 wins for the Reds - Anthony Martial scored the winner in 2017 and the game was decided by Kyle Walker’s own goal on the opening day of the 2015/16 campaign.

This will be the first game Moss has taken charge of in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
