Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Tuesday, November 17.
Gedson Fernandes’ father speaks out about youngster’s future
Gedson Fernandes has had a tough time at Tottenham, failing to make an impact after joining on loan from Benfica in January.
The 21-year-old Portugal international has played just once this season, against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, and Spurs manager Jose Mourinho hasn’t ruled out cutting the loan move short so the midfielder can return to his parent club.
Gedson’s father Edeson Fernandes would welcome such a move, and is keen for the youngster to rebuild his career at one of Portugal’s big clubs and earn the game-time he needs.
"My desire is for him to play, whether at Benfica, Sporting, FC Porto or another team," Edeson Fernandes said, as quoted by Desporto.
Gedson had played more than 50 games for Benfica before moving to north London, helping his team reach the Europa League quarter-finals in 2019, and made his senior Portugal debut as a teenager.
Jack Grealish makes admission about relationship with Harry Kane for England
Jack Grealish was one of England’s best performers as they suffered a defeat to Belgium in their last Uefa Nations League game.
The Aston Villa playmaker impressed in Leuven, but goals from Youri Tielemans and Dries Mertens ended England’s hopes of making the Nations League finals.
It was his first international start in the same line-up as Harry Kane, but the pair appeared to have developed an instant understanding - something which Grealish opened up about after the game.
“I think it just clicks with certain players," the 25-year-old said of his connection with Kane.
"Every time I had the ball I was trying to look for him because I know what damage he can cause in and around the box.”
Grealish, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham in the past, was making his first competitive start for England’s senior team.
He made his senior international debut from the bench against Denmark in September, and was also involved in friendlies against Wales and Ireland.
Tottenham urged to cash in on Erik Lamela in January
Erik Lamela is at a crossroads in his Tottenham career, with less than two years left on his contract.
The former Roma man, who has been with Spurs since 2013, has started just twice in the league this season with fierce competition for places on the wing.
With Gareth Bale’s return strengthening Tottenham out wide, former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has encouraged the club to cash in on the Argentine.
“Now he’s the sort of player that, on his day, can be a world beater. He can score great goals, he’s fantastic with the ball on the deck, great pace, good eye for a pass,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“It’s a catch-22 situation. “If he’s desperately needed by Jose Mourinho, then they should think about getting a new contract on the table for him.
“If he’s not in Jose Mourinho’s plans and they feel they want a fresher person in that position, then you do have to cash in. It’s as simple as that.”
Since joining from Roma in what was then a club-record move for Spurs, Lamela has been in and out of the starting line-up. However, under Mourinho this season, he has been more out than in.
