Tottenham morning headlines as Spurs target teenage starlet, Victor Osimhen latest

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Wednesday, July 15.

Spurs in talks for £500k starlet

Tottenham look set to make the most of Wigan Athletic’s need to sell, after the Championship club were placed in administration last week.

Alfie Devine, a 15-year-old midfielder, is their target, report the Mail, with talks underway already over a £500,000 move.

Devine is an England youth international who was formerly part of Liverpool’s academy set-up.

Spurs are also reportedly interested in Wigan’s 18-year-old forward Joe Gelhardt and 18-year-old midfielder Jensen Weir, who is close to joining Brighton & Hove Albion.

Newcastle v Spurs: Jose Mourinho press conference

Spurs must act fast for Osimhen

Tottenham are one of several Premier League clubs who have been linked with Victor Osimhen, but they’ll have to move fast if they want to secure his signature.

The latest reports are that the Lille striker has chosen Napoli as his next move, but the move is not yet finalised after Osimhen switched agents recently.

RMC Sport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi says Spurs and another unnamed English club are trying to “slip into this uncertainty”, but Napoli are hoping to tie up the deal in the next 24-48 hours.

Osimhen scored 13 goals in Ligue 1 this season and 18 across all competitions. He has four in eight at international level for Nigeria.

He only joined Lille from Belgian side Charleroi a year ago and the French club are set to make a heavy profit on him.

Vertonghen a target for Guardiola

Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen is out of contract at Tottenham this summer and is set to depart on a free transfer after eight years at the club.

The 33-year-old is no longer first choice, but he still has plenty to offer at the top level of the game - so it shouldn’t be a surprise that top clubs are after him, even if not to be a starter every week.

But it’s Manchester City who are said to be looking at the former Ajax man, as a possible backup for Aymeric Laporte.

Vertonghen will have no shortage of options when he leaves north London, with the Telegraph reporting that Real Betis, Sevilla, Roma and Inter Milan are all also interested in signing him.

Jose Mourinho has recently favoured the pairing of Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier at centre-back for Spurs.
