Tottenham morning headlines as Spurs plot Mbaye Niang transfer and Danny Rose Newcastle deal

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Tuesday, June 2.

Spurs try again for Niang

Tottenham are interested in signing Rennes striker Mbaye Niang but face a problem in their pursuit, according to L’Equipe, via HITC.com.

It is said to be the second time Spurs have attempted to land the Senegal striker after they tried to sign him as a 16-year-old.

Now aged 25, Niang has scored 15 goals this season for the Ligue 1 side, but a move from Spurs may fail as they are unable to offer him regular first-team football.

Spurs have reportedly already made contact with the player’s representatives this summer, but a familiar name may trump them to the deal.

Marseille - coached by Andre Villas-Boas - are said to lead the race for the former Watford striker.

Vertonghen pokes fun at Aurier

Jan Vertonghen has taken a tongue-in-cheek jibe at fellow Spurs defender Serge Aurier on social media.

The Belgian defender tagged the former Paris Saint-Germain full-back in a mocked-up image on Instagram that read: 'Tag a friend that would still miss'.

The image was of a giant goalmouth stretching across the entire pitch and going as tall as the stands, with the allegation that Aurier still would not be able to score in such circumstances.

However, it has since been highlighted that both defenders have the same number (two) of goals this campaign.

It highlights the camaraderie between Spurs teammates and suggests spirits are good ahead of a return to Premier League football later this month.

Magpies hopeful of extending Rose loan

Danny Rose joined Newcastle United on loan in the January transfer window, and the club are now hopeful of extending the deal until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The England international’s deal at St. James’s Park is set to expire officially on 30 June, but now they are keen to extend that due to the delay in the football season concluding.

The details are outlined by Chronicle Live, who highlight how Newcastle’s season could go as far as August 1 if they reach the FA Cup final.

Newcastle paid Tottenham £1.8million for the loan deal, but he made just six appearances for the club before football was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
