Tottenham morning headlines as Spurs plan Southampton swap deal, Foyth tipped for Leeds transfer

Here are you Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Tuesday, May 26.

Spurs exploring Hojbjerg swap deal

Tottenham have stepped up their interest in Southampton captain Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg.

According to Football Insider, the north Londoners are exploring the possibility of offering Kyle Walker-Peters to the Saints in order to land the midfielder, who is said to be a key Jose Mourinho target.

Hojbjerg, who joined Southampton from Bayern Munich in 2016, is out of contract at St Mary’s in 2021.

While Everton are also said to be interested in the Denmark international, Spurs are hoping to sweeten Southampton’s pot by offering Walker-Peters, who joined the Saints on loan in January.

Foyth to Leeds a ‘no brainer’ - Phillips

Former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips believes Spurs defender Juan Foyth should move to Leeds United.

As per the Express, the Argentine could be set to link up with compatriot Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road having reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements by Mourinho.

And Phillips has said he thinks Foyth’s move to Leeds would be a ‘no brainer’.

“It is almost a no-brainer,” he told Football Insider. “If they could get that over the line, it would be a good deal because it would not cost a fortune.

“I like Foyth. He has shown that he can play in the Premier League; it doesn’t faze him. If Ben White moves on, then you are at least replacing him with Premier League experience. He is a good player, but there are question marks over whether he is the same calibre as Ben White.

“A run of games would certainly benefit him. It has been a while since he has played regularly, but I like the qualities he possesses.”

Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea await Premier League return date

A return date for the Premier League could be set this week.

Clubs are on Wednesday expected to approve the introduction of phase two in training, which would allow close contact in groups of up to 12 people.

According to Sky Sports, the Premier League will discuss contact training with club captains, managers and PFA and LMA representatives on Tuesday.

The government has approved the progression to the next phase of Project Restart, with the league now expected to return on June 26, with the original June 12 date now considered too soon.

Should clubs agree on the introduction of phase two in training, the Premier League may present final drafts of Project Restart at the end of the week.
