Tottenham morning headlines as Spurs open transfer talks with Serie A target after NFL cash blow

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Sunday, May 3.

Spurs miss out on NFL payday

Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on a huge payday from the NFL amid the coronavirus crisis.

Spurs’ brand new state-of-the-art stadium was set to host the NFL London Series later this year, but that has now been vetoed following uncertainty over international travel.

This will see Spurs miss out on a fee somewhere in the region of £4 million.

Likewise, the FA will miss out on a similar fee as the fixtures planned to be hosted at Wembley have also been moved back to the United States.

Berbatov gives Kane transfer advice

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has provided England striker Harry Kane with some sage advice over a prospective move.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Berbatov has urged Kane to make the tough decision to switch to Old Trafford.

"The final step for me was joining Manchester United and I knew I would be making people disappointed – especially Tottenham fans – but I was following my own path.

"I knew if I missed that chance another one might not come”, the Bulgarian added.

Berbatov admitted his head was not in the right place towards the end of his time at Spurs, with interest in a potential United move swirling in the national media.

Kane remains a long-term target for Manchester United but refuses to be drawn into discussion over his own future.

Spurs ‘in talks’ with Serie A defender

Tottenham Hotspur are alleged to have entered into discussions with Serie A side Hellas Verona about the potential transfer of Marash Kumbulla.

The 20-year-old no-nonsense defender has been a revelation for the promoted side in Italy’s top flight this season, impressing scouts from across Europe.

Spurs are said to be eyeing the Albanian international as a replacement for out-of-contract Jan Vertonghen.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport ( via Sport Witness ) claim it will cost Spurs around €30 million for Kumbulla’s signature, but will face competition from Everton who have also enquired about the centre-back’s availability.
