Tottenham morning headlines as Spurs make £32m Skriniar move, message for Dele Alli, Bale claim

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Thursday, 24 September.

Spurs linked with Slovakian defender

As Jose Mourinho continues to look to rebuild the Tottenham squad to meet his requirements, the club have been linked with a Serie A defender.

Milan Skriniar is a 25-year-old Slovakian centre-back who currently plays for Mourinho’s former team, Inter. With Jan Vertonghen having left north London for Benfica in the summer, Spurs are on the lookout for someone to take his spot in the squad.

According to Sport Mediaset, Tottenham are willing to pay £32million to acquire the player, but Inter are looking for closer to £50m.

If the deal can be completed, Skriniar would become the club’s sixth signing of a busy summer, and the third defender to join after Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon.

Winks on his teammates, new and old

It’s inevitable at this time of year that press conferences revolve around transfers, both incoming and outgoing.

And so it proved for Harry Winks, who was recently asked about Dele Alli, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Reguilon and Gareth Bale.

Tottenham’s No.8 has fond memories of Bale’s first spell with the club, even though he was too young to train with him at that time. But he was certainly a fan of the Welshman.

“I used to watch every week at White Hart Lane when he used to score and win us some fantastic games,” he said. “Hopefully he can do the same for us this season and I am sure he will do.”

Winks was speaking ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Shkendija, and you can read everything he had to say here.

Sherwood on where Dele Alli should play

Dele Alli is currently with the Spurs squad preparing to play in Macedonia tonight.

And despite Mourinho dismissing talk of the player leaving Tottenham, rumours continue to circulate that he might be about to join Paris Saint-Germain on loan for the season.

If that doesn’t come to pass, the Tottenham manager will need to find a space for him in his new look attack. Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood was speaking to talkSPORT and gave his opinion on Dele’s best position.

“Is he going to be an 8? He’s not a sitting midfield player and I think he’s best as a 10 – as a free spirit like he was under Pochettino,” he said.
