Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines fro Thursday, August 27.
Spurs keen on Maripan
Newcastle United are set to rival Tottenham for the signing of Guillermo Maripan, according to Chilean publication CDF.
Spurs are said to be long-term admirers of the central defender, who joined Monaco from Alaves last summer.
Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a new centre-back following Jan Vertonghen’s departure.
And with Monaco reportedly forced to sell some of their first-team stars due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Spurs could be poised to pounce.
However, Newcastle are also keeping tabs on the Chile international and will hope to steal a march on the north Londoners.
Skriniar-Ndombele swap mooted
Another centre-back who’s regularly been linked with Tottenham is Milan Skriniar of Inter.
Meanwhile the Italian giants are reportedly keen on Tanguy Ndombele, who endured a frustrating debut campaign at Spurs.
According to Tuttosport, via Sempre Inter, Antonio Conte’s side could offer Skriniar to Tottenham as part of a deal that would send Ndombele in the opposite direction.
Given Spurs paid a club-record fee for his services, a straight swap deal involving Skriniar is unlikely to be enough for Daniel Levy to sanction Ndombele’s departure.
Aurier exit on hold
Despite multiple reports to the contrary, AC Milan are not interested in signing Serge Aurier this summer.
The right-back has been linked with a move to San Siro in recent weeks, with Spurs hoping to recoup £23million for the Ivory Coast international.
But Milan director Frederic Massara insists the Rossoneri are not tracking Aurier.
“There are many names that come close to us. Aurier is an excellent player, but at the moment there are no conditions to think about him," he said. "He is not a goal."
