Tottenham overtake Manchester City to become most valuable club in the Premier League
Football finance experts at the University of Liverpool Management School have calculated that Tottenham are the most valuable club in England.
Spurs’ low wage budget, low transfer spend, and improved performances in European competition in 2018/19 have significantly strengthened their financial position.
“Spurs are top of the valuation table because in 2018/19 they delivered a Champions League final and a top four Premier League finish on a wage budget that was £100-150million lower than the rest of the 'Big Six',” said Kieran Maguire, part of the University’s Centre for Sports Business Group .
Valued at £1.837billion in 2018 as they sat in third and trailed Man City and Manchester United in the standings, new analysis from Maguire has seen them jump up two places to take top spot.
The Lilywhites are now worth £2.567bn and have blown the likes of the Manchester giants and Liverpool away despite once again not winning any silverware.
Winks urges men to talk about their mental health
Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has encouraged men to open up about their mental health and talk about their difficulties during the lockdown, per The Evening Standard .
Fifpro announced last week that during the lockdown period the number of footballers reporting symptoms of depression had doubled.
Winks, talking to Micah Richards as part of the Football Association's #FootballsStayingHome initiative, urged people to talk about their struggles.
“It's important - especially as men, not just footballers,” he said.
“We always trained never to really talk about things and get it off our chests but I think now everybody is more open about it.
“People have come out and said more about their problems, it's important that everyone talks about it and it leads to a healthier lifestyle and mindset.”
Premier League planning to resume action on June 13
Several Premier League clubs are reportedly gearing up to get the season back underway as early as the second weekend of June.
Plans are yet to be finalised, but with the Premier League being given four weeks by UEFA to finalise their plans to finish the 2019/20 season a new date, June 13, has emerged, per The Mirror .
The government has backed the Premier League’s “Project Restart” plan, too, although the new June 13 date is subject to many difficult issues that could arise over the next six weeks.
