Tottenham morning headlines as second signing lined up after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Friday, August 7.

Jose Mourinho targets second signing after Hojbjerg

The Express report that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has turned his attention to securing the signature of Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson with the deal for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg said to be all but complete.

It’s understood that Tottenham have agreed a £15million fee with Southampton for Hojbjerg, but Mourinho is wasting no time in building the squad in his image next season.

The report states Wilson tops Mourinho’s wishlist for a back-up to Harry Kane. The 28-year-old England international has scored 40 Premier League goals in 126 appearances across five top-flight seasons with Eddie Howe’s Cherries.

Bournemouth are said to be holding out for £20m for their star man.

The fixture chaos awaiting Spurs next season

Tottenham’s senior squad have only been given a brief rest after the protracted 2019/20 season ran until late July.

They’ll return to training on August 17, and it won’t be long before the fixtures come thick and fast, with the new Premier League season set to kick off on the weekend of September 12 alongside three rounds of Europa League qualifying.

Mourinho’s men secured a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, qualifying for European competition, but Arsenal’s FA Cup win means they’re set to go into the second preliminary round in mid-September, meaning they have to make it past three sides to even make it into the Group Stage.

Here are all the details from Alasdair Gold of how their nightmare schedule is shaping up.

Fulham emerge as surprise suitors for Kyle Walker-Peters

It was expected that, following Hojbjerg’s £15m move to Spurs, right-back Kyle Walker-Peters would follow in the other direction, having impressed on loan at St. Mary’s in the latter half of last season.

Tottenham are expected to allow the 23-year-old academy graduate to depart the club this summer, but Fulham emerging as a potential suitor could complicate matters.

The Evening Standard report the newly-promoted Cottagers have shown an interest in signing the player. No matter where he ends up, however, Spurs remain confident of completing the deal for Hojbjerg.
