Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Monday, 24 August.
Three big-name players Tottenham could look to sign
Jose Mourinho hasn’t always been thrifty in the transfer market, having overseen some big-money signings during his stints with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United in particular.
But the Portuguese has arrived at a club unlikely to offer him the funds in the transfer market that he’s accustomed to. Tottenham only broke the £50m barrier for a player last summer, whilst recently went 18 months without signing a player.
With all that in mind, there are some high-profile stars on the continent that could potentially be made available by their clubs in the coming weeks.
Tottenham fans impressed with Ryan Sessegnon display
After a short break this summer, Spurs were back in action this weekend with a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town.
The victory was sealed with all three goals coming in the first half, with two from Son Heung-min and another from Ryan Sessegnon.
The 20-year-old was signed for a reported £25million last summer, but struggled for opportunities during his first year at the club, with just nine starts in all competitions.
But he could be in line for a bigger role next season, and fans on social media were impressed by what they saw on Saturday, noting that he appears to have bulked up with work in the gym.
Here’s what’s been said about him.
Ronaldo Vieira latest name linked
Italian outlet Il Secolo XIX (via Sports Lens ) report that Spurs are considering a move for Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira.
The Leeds United academy graduate, also an England Under-21 international, left the club shortly after Marcelo Bielsa was appointed, joining the Serie A side for a reported £7million fee.
But Vieira, a defensive midfielder by trade, has turned heads in Italy and been frequently linked with a return to England, with West Ham said to have been interested back in January.
Tottenham have already secured the signing of long-rumoured target Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, so it’s worth taking these rumours with a pinch of salt, but were Vieira to arrive, he’d further bolster Mourinho’s options at the base of midfield.
