Here are your Spurs morning headlines.
John Barnes doubts Spurs’ title credentials
John Barnes does not believe that Spurs will win the Premier League this season, stating that they are one game away from disaster under manager Jose Mourinho.
Spurs have made a strong start to the campaign, losing just one of their first eight matches. They currently sit in second position in the table, one point behind leaders, Leicester City. Barnes, though, questions their title credentials.
“They (Tottenham) ground out a victory against West Brom, a game they could have easily lost, but Tottenham aren’t a team who can continue to do that,” he told BonusCodeBets .
“They don’t play with enough consistency, score enough goals, so they are over and above their own expectations now sitting in second position, they are title challengers in the sense they will be in the top four, but they won’t finish in the top two.
“Spurs are always a game away from a disaster or a fan meltdown, and the fans and players will turn on Jose Mourinho as soon as things aren’t going so well.”
United Solskjaer support leaves Pochettino in limbo
Ed Woodward has recommitted his support to Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, leaving former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochetinno in limbo as he waits to return to management a year after being sacked.
Amid growing pressure on Solskjaer, Woodward boldly insisted that he is “absolutely committed” to the Norwegian.
In a statement alongside the club’s financial results, Woodward said: “On the pitch, while there is still hard work ahead to achieve greater consistency, we remain absolutely committed to the positive path we are on under Ole as the team continues to develop.”
This comes after the Manchester Evening News reported that contact has been made between United and Pochettino regarding the Argentinian potentially taking over as the new head coach at Old Trafford. For now, though, the former Spurs boss remains in limbo.
Madrid stance on permanent Bale transfer
Real Madrid are keeping their options open with star winger Gareth Bale, who is currently on loan with Spurs.
Bale had fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu in recent years, infamously celebrating a Wales victory with the banner, “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order”. However, Real have not confirmed that they will sell Bale on a permanent basis next summer, when his north London loan comes to an end.
Per Spanish outlet AS via The Daily Star , Madrid’s preferred solution is for Bale to rediscover his form and cash in on him next summer. Real are desperate to lower their wage bill, and Bale earns close to €30million per year.
However, the report states that they are also open to loaning Bale back to Spurs for another season, though they would require the Premier League club to pay all of his wages, or even reintegrating him into the first-team squad, despite his severed relationship with head coach, Zinedine Zidane.
