Tottenham morning headlines as Mourinho receives transfer promise and Eric Dier contract praised

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Friday, July 24.

Spurs make Mourinho transfer promise

Tottenham have promised Jose Mourinho that no star players will leave the club this summer and they are targeting three players to sign.

A report in the Daily Mail claims that none of the Spurs regulars will be transferred out while Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is among three transfer targets.

Ramsdale is set to provide competition for Hugo Lloris while Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and South Korea international Kim Min-jae are also prime targets for the club.

Homegrown Harry Kane is the ‘special one’ for Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham

Spurs will not have a lot of money to spend this summer but believe they can enter next season with a stronger squad than the current campaign.

Jenas blasts Pochettino sacking

Tottenham are paying for the decision not to back Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market and subsequently sacking the Argentine.

That is according to BT Sport pundit and former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas, who believes that last year’s run to the Champions League final was a triumph for Pochettino and masked underspending by the club.

Pochettino was replaced by Jose Mourinho in November and whilst results have improved recently, the club are short of their expectations of a top four finish.

"It was a shocking season I think personally everywhere," he told football.london in an exclusive interview.

"There weren't many great performances, they lost Mauricio Pochettino, who in my opinion was the one who deserved that money to spend and rebuild what he created but he wasn't given it which I felt was a bizarre decision, but it was something they decided to do.

"They are paying for it now and possibly going to pay for it for the next five years by the looks of it."

Phillips praises Spurs on Dier renewal

Former striker Kevin Phillips believes Eric Dier can be Tottenham’s version of James Milner after he renewed his contract at the club.

England international Dier is versatile and can play multiple positions across defence and midfield, leading to the likeness to the Liverpool stalwart.

“It is always good to have a utility player in your squad,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“He is like Milner at Liverpool as he can play all sorts of positions.

“Mourinho sees him as a centre-half so that could be his solution for next season.

“If he comes out of the midfield area it may free up a slot for Ndombele who might perform next season.

“It is always good to see a long-term servant of the club handed a new deal.”
