Tottenham morning headlines as Mourinho plots Serie A transfer raid, club could lose £20m

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Wednesday, June 3.

Spurs to move for Vecino

Tottenham are prepared to submit an £18million offer for Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino, according to the Daily Star.

The Uruguay international’s name was first brought up in talks between the two clubs in January when Christian Eriksen moved to the Serie A side.

Arsenal and Everton have since made their interest known but with Jose Mourinho keen to strengthen his midfield and an admirer of Vecino, Spurs are now said to be considering a move for the 28-year-old.

How Spurs fans really feel about Project Restart

Tottenham supporters are against the Premier League returning this month, according to the results from Reach PLC’s The Great Big Football Lockdown Survey.

Alasdair Gold answers Tottenham Hotspur questions

More than 14,000 fans from across the country took part in the survey which asked a range of questions on lockdown, Project Restart and a number of other football issues.

Of the Spurs fans who took part, 61% were against the top-flight’s return while only 34% were in favour of the Premier League’s resumption. That was a similar trend among top-six clubs, barring LIverpool.

If the season wasn’t to be completed, 67% percent of Tottenham supporters felt null and voiding the campaign would be the best option - an outcome that would see Spurs remain in the Champions League.

Only 18% felt the standings should be left as they are while 15% favoured points per game.

Tottenham could lose further £20m

Spurs face the prospect of a £20m financial hit even if the Premier League season is completed by the end of July, according to Football Insider.

The top flight is expected to resume on June 17 and a plan is in place for the 2019/20 campaign to finally be concluded on July 26.

However, Premier League sides face broadcasting rebates as the campaign will not be finished by July 16, the original completion date in all Premier League’s broadcasting deals.

And if Spurs are able to finish in the top six then they will reportedly have to repay around £20m.

Spurs interested in Napoli star - report

Vecino isn’t the only Serie A star Tottenham are interested in as, according to Il Mattano, Spurs are prepared to rival Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.

Tottenham want to sign the Senegal international with Jan Vertonghen set to leave the club when his contract expires this summer and Toby Alderweireld in the twilight of his career.

Napoli wouldn’t let him leave on the cheap, though, and would demand a fee of £89m, a figure Spurs will almost certainly not match.
