Tottenham morning headlines as Mourinho offered Costa reunion and Aurier bid rejected

Good morning, Tottenham fans. Here are your morning headlines for Friday, August 28.

Mourinho offered Costa reunion

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, according to the Daily Star.

Costa scored 20 goals when he and Mourinho led Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2015.

The Spaniard, 31, returned to Atletico in 2017, where he has struck 17 times in 74 appearances. He has one year left on his deal.

Mourinho is determined to secure a striker in this window to support Harry Kane during an intense 2020/21 fixture schedule that includes Europa League action.

Spurs have also expressed interest in Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

Spurs knock back opening Aurier bid

Tottenham have rejected AC Milan’s opening offer for right-back Serge Aurier, according to Sky Sports.

Talks remain ongoing although the two clubs are said to be well apart in their valuation of the player, who joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain for £23m in 2017.

Bayer Leverkusen have also expressed interest in the Ivorian, who is free to leave the north Londoners this summer.

Aurier, who has two years remaining on his Spurs contract, has made 83 appearances for the club, scoring six goals.

Doherty closing in on Tottenham move

Versatile Wolverhampton Wanderers full-back Matt Doherty is closing in on his £12m move to Tottenham.

The two clubs are close to an agreement and football.london understands that Spurs are keen to complete the deal before Doherty links up with the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their Nations League game in Bulgaria next week.

Doherty was due to return home from his holiday in Sardinia on Thursday.

Wolves are expected to sign Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles as Doherty’s replacement.

The Irishman will be a shrewd acquisition for Mourinho with the 28-year-old capable of playing anywhere on the right-hand side of the pitch as well as left-back.
