Tottenham morning headlines as Mourinho hatches Man United plan, Hojbjerg £25m transfer boost

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for June 18.

Mourinho can exploit United’s weaknesses

The Premier League is back in action, and the one match this weekend which features two of the traditional big-six clubs sees Tottenham host Manchester United on Friday night.

Spurs are currently four points adrift of United in the league table and seven shy of the top four, so will need to win if they are to have any realistic chance of making it into the Champions League next season.

Few people know the current United setup better than their previous manager and current Spurs boss Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese was in charge of the Red Devils as recently as the first half of last season and coached many of the players Tottenham will come up against.

Hojbjerg heading to Tottenham?

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is about to enter the final year of his Southampton contract, and Saints have admitted they will have to let the player go if a club meets their asking price .

Hojbjerg was previously Saints’ captain, but manager Ralph Hasenhuttl had previously stated he would lose the armband if he didn’t sign a new deal - and he has been true to his word.

James Ward-Prowse has been installed as Southampton’s new skipper until the end of 2019/20, which has led to an increase in speculation about Hojbjerg’s future.

The club are believed to be looking for £25million for the midfielder, with Tottenham said to be interested in making a move.

Mourinho is keen to bolster his midfield options ahead of his first full season in charge of Spurs.

Spurs linked to Diallo

Mourinho will be hoping to reshape the Tottenham squad in other areas this summer.

According to the agent of Metz striker Habib Diallo, Spurs made a bid for the player in January.

Thierno Seydi claims Tottenham have been monitoring his client for some time, as reported by the Agence de Presse Senegelaise (via Transfer Tavern).

Diallo scored 12 goals and provided three assists in Ligue 1 this season, as per WhoScored.
