Tottenham morning headlines as Mourinho eyes £25m striker and new team move for Serge Aurier

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Monday, 7 September.

Jose Mourinho keeps tabs on £25m Championship star

Tottenham are weighing up a move for £25m-rated Brentford attacker Ollie Watkins.

According to The Express , Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his attacking options behind Harry Kane and has identified the 24-year-old, who finished as joint top scorer in the Championship last term with 26 goals.

Brentford narrowly missed out on promotion last season after losing the play-off final to West London rivals Fulham at Wembley and are expected to lose some of their star players.

Watkins’ name has been a frequent fixture of the gossip columns this summer, heavily linked with both Leeds and Aston Villa, but is still with Brentford.

New suitor emerges for Serge Aurier

Bayer Leverkusen are eyeing a potential move for Spurs right-back Serge Aurier, according to Metro .

The Bundesliga side have funds to spend after selling Kai Havertz to Chelsea for a reported €85million fee and are said to be keen on Tottenham’s Ivory Coast international.

Aurier is expected to leave the club in the coming weeks following the arrival of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matt Doherty. He’s been frequently linked with a return to France with various Ligue 1 tipped for his signature, but a Bundesliga move may be on the cards.

Here’s the latest Tottenham transfer news and rumours .

Spurs learn Carabao Cup fate

Tottenham will face either Plymouth Argyle or Leyton Orient in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

With European commitments, Mourinho’s men enter the tournament at the third round stage, but face a packed schedule as they return to action later this month.

The club will be hoping that Leyton Orient come out on top of the second round clash, with a short London trip as opposed to a long journey down to Devon.

Scheduled to take place on Tuesday September 22nd, the fixture comes just two days before a potential Europa League third round qualifier and two days after facing Southampton away in the Premier League.
