Tottenham morning headlines as Kane recalls Pochettino sacking, Dele's Mourinho meeting

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Wednesday, August 26.

Kane recalls Poch sacking

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has recalled how Mauricio Pochettino was sacked as the club’s manager in November.

The Argentine was relieved of his duties after five years at the club following a poor run of results, with Jose Mourinho appointed as his successor less than 24 hours later.

“He didn’t know already, I spoke to him last night,” Kane said at the time, via the Mirror.

“Mauricio told me, ‘The chairman called me and said, ‘Can I talk? It will be a shame but you will need to pack your things and you leave tonight’.”

However, despite the abrupt nature of Pochettino’s departure, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy rejects claims that he is ‘stubborn and hard-nosed’.

“The perception of me is that I am hard-nosed, stubborn, don’t care and not ambitious,” says Levy. “A lot of that is unfair.

“They just don’t understand how hard it is to get to that place where you improve the team.

Amazon doc details Mourinho-Alli meeting

The upcoming Amazon Prime documentary All or Nothing captures a tense meeting Mourinho had with Spurs midfielder Dele Alli.

In a one-on-one conversation in Mourinho’s office, Alli is told that he must realise his potential after being called ‘lazy’ by the Portuguese boss.

"I am going to be a pain in the ass for you, and you are lucky because when I am a pain in the ass it means I like you,” Mourinho tells Alli.

"What I want to tell you is this, I think you feel that I like you. I like you as a player and I like you as a kid, I think you are a nice kid," he said in his office.

"I don't want to be your father because you have your father, I don't want to be your uncle or brother, I just want to be your coach but with a good connection. So I have to tell you always what I think.”

Hart will not settle for back-up role - Robinson

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes new signing Hart will have his sights set on taking Hugo Lloris’ spot in Mourinho’s starting 11.

Hart joined Spurs earlier this month on a free transfer after leaving Burnley, where he played second-fiddle to Nick Pope.

However, Robinson claims Hart will think he is better than Spurs’ French stopper as he looks to rejuvenate his Premier League career.

“He will not be going there to rest on his laurels,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“He will be thinking, and certainly, I would be thinking, that Lloris has been injury prone and inconsistent over the past couple of seasons, Gazzaniga has done OK, but Joe Hart definitely believes he is better than him.

"He will fancy his chances of playing."
