Tottenham morning headlines as Jose Mourinho takes swipe at Arsenal, Lazio eye Danny Rose deal

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Monday, July 6.

Lazio eye Danny Rose transfer

Serie A giants Lazio have been tipped to sign Spurs left-back Danny Rose this summer by Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport.

The 31-year-old has spent the second half of the season on loan at Newcastle United and doesn’t appear to have a future at the club under Jose Mourinho, but there is no clause for any Magpies deal to be made permanent.

The new report suggests that Lazio, currently 2nd in Serie A, have been in touch with Rose’s agent ahead of a possible transfer this summer.

Here’s our round-up of all the latest transfer gossip.

Kyle Walker-Peters gives Mourinho food for thought in Man City win

Tottenham academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters put in an impressive display as Southampton shocked Manchester City with a 1-0 win at St. Mary’s yesterday.

It was the 21-year-old’s third Premier League start of the season in his half-season loan with Saints, but he caught the eye with a disciplined and diligent performance to shut out Raheem Sterling and David Silva down City’s left flank.

Serge Aurier has been Mourinho’s first-choice right-back, but has been linked with a move back to Ligue 1 this summer, which could give Walker-Peters a way back in at his boyhood club.

We’ve taken a closer look at the youngster’s performance against Pep Guardiola’s side to see what he might offer Tottenham on his return this summer.

Mourinho hits back after cheeky Arsenal tweet

Mourinho has responded after Arsenal’s official Facebook account appeared to aim a jibe at their north London neighbours over the weekend.

Spurs were defeated 3-1 by Sheffield United in midweek, prompting the Gunners to post highlights of their 2-1 FA Cup victory against Chris Wilder’s Blades.

“It’s not easy beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Here’s a reminder of how it’s done,” read the caption, unsubtly aimed at Tottenham.

Mourinho criticised Arsenal for the post, suggesting they’re only resorting to it due to their own struggles on the pitch this season.

“If they were top of the league or fighting for top four and in a really good moment, they wouldn’t enjoy the problems of others,” said the Tottenham manager (via The Mail).

“You only enjoy the problems of others when you are also in trouble. So I think in the end it’s a little more about that. They don’t have much to celebrate, so they have to take any opportunity to do it. They are in a very similar situation to us in the table.

“I don’t like to connect the club with such posts or tweets because probably the person who did it, did it by himself.

“I don’t believe it was (Mikel) Arteta who posted it — probably it was some guy who has been working from home for three months. No problem, at home we will be waiting for them!”
