Tottenham morning headlines as Jose Mourinho ponders £15m move for Lucas Vasquez

Good morning, Tottenham fans. Here are your Spurs morning headlines for Tuesday, June 30.

Spurs target Real Madrid star

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is keen to return to former club Real Madrid in order to sign versatile wideman Lucas Vazquez, according to Mundo Deportivo

The Spain international, who was promoted to the first-team squad at the Bernabeu long after Mourinho had departed, has struggled with injuries this term and hasn’t been a regular in Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Vazquez’s contract at the Bernabeu expires in the summer of 2021 and Real will attempt to sell the 28-year-old this summer while they can still recoup a sizable fee.

Mourinho plays down suggestions of rift with Ndombele

The Spanish giants want around £22m for the 28-year-old, but Spurs are hoping to knock that down to around £15m.

Trippier hits back at Kane critics

Former Spurs full-back Kieran Trippier is baffled by the criticism Harry Kane has received this season and insists the striker would score goals even if he was 50% fit.

Kane has made 27 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions this term and scored 18 goals, but a hamstring injury suffered in January and the coronavirus pandemic kept him out of action for six months.

Long-term absences due to injury have become a recurring theme in recent seasons for Kane and it was put to Trippier that the England captain may have reached his peak.

But Trippier, who is now with Atlético Madrid, rejected that notion and launched a staunch defence of the Spurs talisman.

“It does annoy me that people are saying that about H," he said during a lengthy interview with the The Beautiful Game podcast.

"I'll give you a great example. People say about his injuries but the prime example is Danny Ings, who I used to play with. I think he's had four ACL injuries but you look at him now and he's flying. You can't write anybody off, and especially H.

"How can you write him off? It just baffles me. Everybody gets injured but it's just laughable that the media or anybody can write him off. He could play at 50% and still score goals.

"He's the best finisher I've seen, probably him and Jermain Defoe in training. H is great. He's the best pro I've ever come across. He doesn't drink. Top professional on and off the field.

"He does everything right. He will score goals wherever he is. I've got no worries about H."

Tottenham face Dier dilemma

Out of contract in 2021, Spurs face a difficult decision over the future of Eric Dier this summer.

The 26-year-old has started both of Tottenham’s games following football’s resumption and has impressed in the centre of defence alongside Davinson Sanchez.

Yet with no talks currently planned to extend the England international’s deal at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, it leaves Spurs and Mourinho in a difficult position come the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The club and Portuguse coach have three realistic routes to take, and these have been explored in detail by Football.London.
