Tottenham morning headlines as Jose Mourinho outlines plan to rest Harry Kane, Rudiger update

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Saturday, November 21.

Kane set to earn rest from Mourinho

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is planning to give Harry Kane a much-needed breather.

The star striker has played an awful lot of football over the past years for both club and country, with Spurs bringing in Carlos Vinicius in the summer to help ease the pressure on the frontman.

Kane has also suffered issues with his ankles in recent campaigns.

Ahead of Saturday night’s game at home to Manchester City, Mourinho explained: “I said in a funny way a few months ago that I would never play Harry in a friendly match.

“And because we don’t have friendly matches, I am not going to play him in any friendly.

“I am going to do what I’m doing. We have a very good striker in Vinicius, too. He can play, has quality. He needs to adapt and is still finding that adaptation difficult, starting with the language because he doesn’t speak any English.”

Aurier set to replace Doherty as Spurs team is predicted

Tottenham will be able to rise to the top of the Premier League once again if they can beat Pep Guardiola’s City.

But Spurs will be without Matt Doherty, who tested positive for Covid-19 while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, with Erik Lamela in the final stages of his return from an Achilles injury and Harry Winks returning from England duty with a “little problem”, according to head coach Mourinho.

Football.london’s Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold has named the team he reckons Mourinho will choose for the big game on Saturday night.

He predicts that Serge Aurier will start in Doherty’s absence at right-back, with Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier expected to continue together in central defence, and Sergio Reguilon at left-back.

The midfield trio of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele is also likely to continue, with a spot available for Steven Bergwijn or Lucas Moura on the right – as Mourinho continues to monitor Gareth Bale’s fitness carefully – alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Spurs-linked Rudiger set for January exit

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, could leave the club in the January transfer window, according to Eurosport.

Spurs reportedly made an attempt to sign the centre-back during transfer deadline day last month, but the move failed to materialise, with the Whites instead bringing in Swansea City’s Joe Rodon.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein recently revealed that Chelsea were willing to do business with Spurs, but that it was Rudiger who rejected the chance to move to North London on loan.
