Tottenham morning headlines as Jose Mourinho given vital transfer message and Brazilian linked

Good morning, Tottenham fans. Here are your morning headlines for Monday, June 15.

Levy gives Mourinho transfer brief

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has told manager Jose Mourinho he will need to sell players before spending big in the upcoming transfer window, according to Football Insider .

Like many other clubs, Tottenham have been adversely affected by the coronavirus crisis, meaning any plans Mourinho has for a squad overhaul will need to rely on sales, bargains or free transfers.

That would mark a shift from recent windows, in which the club have spent big on the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn.

Spurs have been linked with several soon-to-be free agents but will attempt to raise funds through the sales of Serge Aurier and Danny Rose.

Football Insider also suggest Erik Lamela could depart if the price is right.

Tottenham also face uncertainty over their European involvement next season.

After suffering elimination from the Champions League at the hands of RB Leipzig, Mourinho’s team are at least four points adrift of a return to the competition, although Manchester City’s appeal against their European ban could yet come into play.

Spurs tipped to win race for PSG star

Thiago Silva is due to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season and Tottenham have emerged as front-runners for his signature.

With PSG sporting director Leonardo confirming the Brazilian will depart after the club completes its Champions League campaign, a number of Premier League sides have been put on alert.

According to the Sun , Spurs are leading the way, though Arsenal and Everton are also interested. It was Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti who first brought Silva to PSG, signing him from AC Milan in 2012.

Spurs are on the lookout for reinforcements at centre-back, with Jan Vertonghen expected to leave on a free at the end of the current campaign.

Agent claims Spurs made offer for Senegal striker

Tottenham’s drop-off in form this season coincided in part with their lack of options upfront, but they were reportedly in the running for a January signing who could have helped solve their problems.

With Harry Kane sidelined, Spurs won just three of their nine league games in 2020 and were eliminated from the FA Cup and Champions League.

However, the issue might have been mitigated had they been successful in their pursuit of Senegal striker Habib Diallo.

According to APS, via Get French Football News , Spurs made a bid for the Metz frontman in January.

“Already in January, there was an offer from Tottenham. As soon as the European markets open, things should precipitate,” agent Thierno Seydi said.

The 24-year-old striker scored 26 goals last season as Metz won promotion from Ligue 2.

He also found the net 12 times in the 2019/20 campaign to help his club cement its place in the French top flight.
