Tottenham morning headlines as Jose Mourinho eyes James Rodriguez transfer, Callum Wilson warned

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Saturday, August 22.

Wilson advised against making Tottenham move

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Callum Wilson should not sign for the club while Harry Kane is still there.

That’s the view of former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, who told Football Insider that the Bournemouth forward should instead sign for a different Premier League team in order to gain regular game time.

Wilson has been linked with a move to Spurs after the Cherries were relegated from the top flight last season.

Tottenham fixture list

“The big thing for me, if I’m Callum Wilson, it’s about being number one somewhere and playing week in, week out,” Phillips said.

“If you go to Tottenham you’re just a back-up striker and if Harry Kane stays fit for the season you’re going to get hardly any games, maybe a couple of cup games.”

Rose transfer latest

Tottenham defender Danny Rose could still leave the club for Newcastle United.

The left-back spent the back-end of last season on loan at St James Park and manager Steve Bruce has not ruled out a permanent move for him.

“On Danny Rose, we will have to look to see what will happen in the next few weeks,” Bruce told Chronicle Live.

“As I’ve said, we’ve got to box clever because of the situation we are all in.”

Mourinho keen on Rodriguez

Out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has long been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital.

And Spurs could be the Colombian’s next destination, the Daily Mail claims, with Spurs manager Jose Mourinho reportedly keen on the attacking midfielder.

The 29-year-old spent two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich and only made eight appearances during the last campaign as Real won La Liga.
