Tottenham morning headlines as Joe Rodon told to snub move, Mourinho's transfer plans

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Wednesday, 7 October.

Rodon urged to stay at Swansea amid Spurs interest

Joe Rodon would be a significant loss for Swansea City if the defender decided to join Tottenham Hotspur, admits team-mate Connor Roberts.

Speaking ahead of Wales’ friendly with England on Thursday, Roberts jokingly claimed that he has been left baffled by interest in Rodon given the player’s poor form.

However, when speaking honestly about the 22-year-old, Roberts admitted that he does not want Rodon to leave Swansea.

“Yeah, I don’t want him to go anywhere,” said Roberts.

Joe Rodon to Spurs: Have you met Daniel Levy?

“Obviously, there’s been a lot of talk about him going wherever he may go, but hopefully he can stay and he can keep on performing well like he has been."

Spurs have until the EFL window deadline of October 16 to sign Rodon after failing to land a centre-back during the Premier League window, with the north Londoners considering a move for the four-time Wales international.

Mourinho wanted strong voices added to Spurs dressing room

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho wanted to strengthen his squad’s mentality by adding strong voices to his dressing room during the summer transfer window.

As explained by football.london Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, Mourinho felt the need to restore the team’s confidence after a difficult 2019/20 campaign.

Spurs signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who had been Southampton captain, and Matt Doherty, who Mourinho viewed as a winner after his impressive displays for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Two-time Premier League winner Joe Hart and former Spurs talisman Gareth Bale were also added during a strong window for the north Londoners, while there is a new back-up option in attack following Carlos Vinicius’ capture from Benfica.

While they have not yet signed a centre-back, a productive window has rejuvenated belief at Tottenham that Mourinho can lead this squad to trophies.

Spurs transfer deals rated

Tottenham’s transfer dealings have been rated by football.london Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, with Bale’s return the most exciting piece of business.

Bale’s return was scored a perfect 10 by Gold, who believes the Welshman can play a key role for Mourinho once he returns to full fitness.

Sergio Reguilon and Hojbjerg both score a 9, while Doherty and Vinicius earn an 8. Hart’s arrival on a free transfer is awarded a 6.

As for departures, there are high scores for youth talent Troy Parrott, Oliver Skipp and Ryan Sessegnon, all of whom secured loan moves away in order to gain important first-team minutes.
