Tottenham morning headlines as Harry Kane criticised and Mourinho's perfect role for Gareth Bale

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur headlines for the morning of Monday November 2.

Jose Mourinho might have found perfect role for Gareth Bale at Spurs

It took Gareth Bale just three minutes to repay Jose Mourinho for introducing him off the bench in the second half against Brighton, with the Welsh winger scoring what would prove to be the winner.

Bale found a pocket of space inside the penalty box to get on the end of a Sergio Reguilon cross into the middle, heading home from six yards out to ultimately give Spurs all three points.

football.london’s Andrew Dowdeswell has taken a look at how Mourinho might have found the perfect role for the on-loan Real Madrid star who has the potential to be a big player for Tottenham this season.

Until Bale gets up to speed in terms of his fitness, he might have to make do with the super-sub role that worked so well for him and Spurs against Brighton on Sunday.

Gary Lineker calls for change after Harry Kane penalty award

Gary Lineker has called for referees to award more penalties for players staying on their feet in the box after Harry Kane “bought” a spot kick against Brighton.

The Tottenham Hotspur was bundled over inside the area by Adam Lallana, although there was some doubt over whether the decision to point to the spot after the use of VAR was the right one.

“Thought Harry Kane bought that one,” Lineker said. “Just backed into [Adam] Lallana and also not convinced it was inside the box.”

Lineker went on to tweet: “Worth pointing out that British players are just as culpable as foreign players when it comes to throwing themselves to the ground if someone flicks an eyelash at them in the box.”

Match of the Day pundit highlights ‘dangerous play’ from Tottenham captain

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has criticised Kane for “dangerous play” in the way he won a penalty kick for Tottenham Hotspur against Brighton on Sunday.

Kane appeared to back into Lallana, causing the Brighton midfielder to leap over the top of the Spurs man and pushing Kane to the floor. This prompted the referee to point to the spot, giving Kane the chance to find the back of the net.

“The referee has had a really bad afternoon, this is Harry Kane, I believe he knows exactly what he is doing,” Keown said on Match of the Day 2.

“He looks at his opponent, knows what he is going to do and makes a back for him. I think it is dangerous play from Harry Kane and he knows what he is doing and I don't even think it is a penalty.”
