Tottenham cast net across Europe in search for new striker
Tottenham Hotspur have identified a number of targets across Europe and have made enquiries as they look for the striker Jose Mourinho wants this summer.
football.london understands the North London club are no closer to signing a centre-forward to provide competition and cover for Harry Kane, but a shortlist of potential targets has been drawn up.
Spurs would prefer to bring in a striker on loan with a view to a permanent transfer at some point in the future, but a number of different options are being considered.
Metz forward Habib Diallo has been mentioned, as has Benfica’s Carlos Vinicius. Enquiries have been made for Torino captain Andrea Belotti, while Patson Daka, Alexander Sorloth and Arkadiusz Milik are also on the radar.
Former Spurs midfielder expresses concern over Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg debut
Jamie Redknapp has questioned whether new Tottenham signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the man Jose Mourinho needs to control his midfield.
The Danish international made his competitive debut for the North London club in the opening day defeat to Everton yesterday and Redknapp has raised doubts over whether he is the right man for Tottenham.
“This is week one, we have to be extremely careful,” the former Spurs midfielder said on Sky Sports. “Hojbjerg, today, didn’t have his best game, but it’s his debut - I don’t want to jump into his nightmare.
“Once he gets his fitness and starts to play more games, he will get better and improve. But when I look at what Spurs need, is he the sort of player this Spurs midfield needs right now? I think back to not too long ago when they had a midfield with an understanding.”
Spurs given green light to make move for Real Sociedad forward
Real Sociedad are willing to let Willian Jose leave this summer, with Tottenham given the go-ahead to make a move for the 28-year-old forward.
Spanish outlet El Desmarque (via Sports Mole) claims Sociedad have made Jose available for sale this summer despite the player still having over four years left on his contract at the Anoeta.
Spurs targeted Jose in the January transfer window, but were unable to get a deal across the line. Now, Mourinho has once again prioritised the signing of a new centre-forward, with a number of targets shortlisted.
Jose scored 11 times for Real Sociedad in La Liga last season, but recently tested positive for Covid-19, ruling him out of the Spanish club’s season opener at the weekend.
