Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Thursday, July 23.
Spurs optimistic over Hojbjerg deal
Tottenham are confident of completing a deal for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to the Guardian.
Hojbjerg is almost certain to depart St Mary’s this summer, but Spurs are not the only club interested.
Everton have reportedly had a £25million bid accepted by Southampton, but Tottenham believe Hojbjerg will reject their advances and move to north London instead.
The former Bayern Munich man is determined to join Spurs, who plan to deploy him as the deepest player in their midfield setup.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at Southampton in a year’s time and was stripped of the captaincy after making it clear that he wishes to leave ahead of next season.
And despite Everton’s attempts to hijack the deal, Tottenham are still confident that they will sign Hojbjerg this summer.
Tottenham eye Roma’s Zaniolo
Tottenham are also weighing up a move for Roma attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.
Jose Mourinho is thought to be a fan of the 21-year-old, who has scored six Serie A goals this season despite problems with injury.
The report states Tottenham will attempt to sign the youngster for around €50m (£45.5m) this summer.
However, Roma are thought to value Zaniolo around the €60-70m mark (£54.6m-£63.7m) which could complicate negotiations.
The midfielder, who joined Roma from Inter two years ago, is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until 2024.
Spurs target Real Madrid man
Tottenham are willing to offer £14.5m for Real Madrid forward Lucas Vazquez, according to Defensa Central.
However, Zinedine Zidane is keen to keep the 29-year-old at the Santiago Bernabeu as a squad player.
Vazquez made only 18 La Liga appearances in 2019/20 as Madrid beat Barcelona to the title.
And the Spain international could be open to a move away if he decides he wants more first-team football.
Mourinho is keen to add more firepower to his attack ahead of his first full season in charge, and Vazquez has emerged as a target.
