Tottenham morning headlines as Barcelona eye Spurs players for Philippe Coutinho swap deal

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Friday, June 12.

Barcelona assessing Spurs players for swap deal with Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho will be available to Tottenham and Chelsea for £55million and one player worth £25m, according to Sport (via the Mirror).

Barcelona value the Brazilian at £80m, but are reportedly open to including either a centre-back or left-back from an interested party to help fund the deal.

Newcastle United are also rumoured to be interested in signing Coutinho, although they would be able to pay the £80m in full, should their buyout go through.

John Barnes picks Dele Alli ahead of Jadon Sancho in his England 11

Former Liverpool player John Barnes has selected two Tottenham players in the England team he thinks Gareth Southgate should pick, leaving out both Jadon Sancho and Kyle Walker.

Dele Alli was given the nod at the tip of midfield in a 4-3-3 formation, with Barnes praising the Spurs player’s creativity, while Harry Kane was chosen as the centre-forward.

However, there was no place for Sancho as Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling were picked on the flanks, while Walker was beaten to the right-back slot by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

"With the pace and skill of the front three, you will need somebody who is going to have the quality to provide a solid end product and create chances, and that player is Dele Alli," Barnes told BonusCodeBets.

"As the number 10 behind Harry Kane on a weekly basis for Tottenham, Dele will provide plenty of opportunities for the front three."

Tottenham end their interest in Flamengo’s Gerson - report

Spurs are reportedly no longer looking into signing Brazilian midfielder Gerson from Flamengo, after being priced out of a deal.

According to Esportes, Gerson has been valued at £43m by the club, which makes him too expensive for Tottenham given the financial issues that have affected European football as a result of the three-month hiatus.

The 23-year-old, who signed from AS Roma in 2019, is reportedly also wanted by Chelsea.

Tottenham are said to have offered £16m, falling a long way short of Flamengo’s valuation and killing the deal.
