Tottenham miss out on defensive transfer target as Lewis Dunk hailed as ideal signing

Here is your Tottenham morning digest on Monday, July 26.

Tottenham set to miss out on transfer target

Spurs are set to miss out on one of their summer transfer targets as Joachim Andersen is edging closer to a move to Crystal Palace.

Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, via HITC, has reported that talks are progressing well and a deal is close to being completed.

Andersen spent last year on loan with London rivals Fulham and despite their relegation from the Premier League, he proved to be a useful defensive asset.

With Tottenham in the hunt for at least two centre-backs this summer, including a central defensive leader, as reported by football.london back in late March, the club looked at the possibility of signing the Dane but it appears as though that ship has sailed.

Gollini’s classy touch

Pierluigi Gollini is now a Tottenham player after completing his move to the club from Atalanta on Saturday.

Initially joining on a season-long loan deal, Spurs do have the option to make the move permanent if they so wish.

Clearly happy to be a Spurs player after putting pen-to-paper on a loan deal, the 26-year-old stated in his first interview with Spurs TV that he wants to demonstrate that he can be "the future of Tottenham".

Taking to Instagram not long after his move, Gollini penned a classy message to the staff and players at Atalanta following five seasons with the Bergamo-based club.

Dunk hailed as ideal Tottenham signing

Toby Alderweireld appears to be edging close to an exit after he was spotted in Qatar following rumours that he was set for a switch to Al Duhail.

With that in mind, former Spurs man Paul Stewart believes his old club should look to sign someone from the Premier League, namely Brighton captain, Lewis Dunk.

Talking to ThisIsFutbol, he said: “[Lewis] Dunk would be ideal [for Spurs].

“I’ve said it from the start of last season because he has impressed me, and he’s a goal threat as well.

“Not only is he a commanding centre-half, but he’s a goal threat, and they’re hard to come by.”
