Tottenham midfielder reveals details of letter sent to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard

Harry Winks has revealed how he wrote a letter to Steven Gerrard asking for advice when he was seven years old, but never received a reply.

Despite being a boyhood Tottenham Hotspur fan, the England international admits the Liverpool legend was his childhood hero.

However, the 23-year-old, who will sit out Sunday's trip to Anfield through injury , never received a reply from Gerrard.

Going on to make it as a professional footballer regardless, Winks joked there are no hard feelings despite the snub.

"Steven Gerrard was always someone I looked up to," he told Sky Sports . "I actually wrote him a letter years ago, but never got a return!

"I didn't expect him to, I think I sent it to the Liverpool training ground when I was about six or seven years old!

"It said: 'I really want to be a professional football, I really want to be like you! Can you give me some advice and some help on what you think I need to do?!'

"I don't even know if I sent it to the right address, it probably got lost in the post office somewhere along the way.
