Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks set to miss the rest of the season after groin surgery

Harry Winks looks set to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a groin injury.

The midfielder picked up the injury during the Champions League quarter-final first leg with Manchester City at the beginning of April and has been missing ever since.

And Tottenham have confirmed that the 23-year-old has undergone surgery, effectively ending his season.

In a statement on Twitter, Spurs said: "Harry Winks has today undergone groin surgery. The England midfielder will be monitored by our medical staff as he continues his recovery before commencing rehabilitation."

Pochettino gives details about his first Spurs meeting with Daniel Levy and why it was odd

With only two Premier League games to go, against Bournemouth and Everton, and two legs of the Champions League semi-final against Ajax, all taking place in the next two weeks, it would appear that Winks' season is over.

However, should Spurs reach the Champions League final on June 1, depending on the type of surgery and his rehabilitation, there is no telling whether or not he will be available to play.

Winks has been an integral members of the Spurs midfield this season, playing 40 games in all competitions, as well as appearing in the Nations League for England.

And with Moussa Sissoko also sidelined, as he works his way back to fitness, Spurs have a number of injury concerns before the final few games of the campaign.
