Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has taken to social media to send a message to fans after his withdrawal from the England squad.
The FA confirmed the Spurs man had withdrawn from the squad on Monday evening but did not go into specifics as to the reason.
However, it is hoped that the player will be able to return to action as the Premier League returns in just under two weeks’ time.
Winks was due to take part in the Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark this week, but will now instead return to Tottenham.
Following the news, the midfielder sent a message on Instagram .
“I’m gutted at not being able to meet up with the rest of the squad for these international games,” he wrote.
“It’s always such an honour to represent my country and missing out is very disappointing but it’s a must right now.
“I will be cheering the boys on from home!!”
Winks has been replaced in the squad by Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish who has been given his first call-up to the England squad following an impressive season in the Premier League.
Tottenham kick off their 2020/21 campaign with the visit of Everton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, September 13.
Before that, they will be looking to keep up their 100 percent record in pre-season with a win over Championship side Watford on Saturday, a game in which Matt Doherty could make his Spurs debut.
