Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier ruled out until 2019 after having appendix removed

Eric Dier has been ruled out of Tottenham festive fixtures after the England international had his appendix removed over the weekend.

Dier, who came on against Barcelona at Camp Nou in midweek, missed Tottenham’s win over Burnley on Saturday will a what was described as a virus.

Oliver Skipp, 18, started in his place, but the club have now confirmed that Dier underwent surgery to remove his appendix.

A statement read on the club’s official website: “The England international midfielder was diagnosed with appendicitis after contacting our medical staff due to acute Abdominal pain. He received immediate treatment to assess and then remove the appendix.

“He will now undergo a period of recovery before commencing rehabilitation and it is expected he will return to training with the squad in January.

“Along with our Medical staff, we wish to thank the NHS for their excellent treatment of Eric.”
